Over the past three years, Conran & Partners have been developing proposals for the redevelopment of the town centre of Catterick Garrison for Defence Estates. The existing town centre has suffered significant decline over several decades, losing trade to nearby competitors.

Unsympathetic later development and a number of empty sites have eroded what was once a thriving local centre with distinctive red-brick, Neo-Georgian character. The recent addition of a Tesco superstore surrounded by at-grade parking has done little to reinforce the area’s sense of place, but has proved the viability of the local market.

The new development seeks to repair and enhance the grain of the town centre, binding together old and later fabric with a matrix of new development, providing 12,000 sqm retail restaurant/bar and office space and up to 200 new homes, as well as improving pedestrian and cycle connections across the site between adjacent park land and a new sports and leisure adjacent to the town-centre site.
