This 19-storey timber-clad tower by Conran & Partners is the latest arrival at Salford Quays.

The building, part of a residential complex, sits opposite Michael Wilford’s Lowry Centre and alongside Daniel Libeskind’s Imperial War Museum North.

The concrete-framed tower and nine-storey block provide one- and two-bedroom apartments. “[We tend to use] materials that age gracefully,” said Tim Bowder-Ridger, associate director at Conran & Partners. “The external panelling is a timber veneer compressed onto Bakelite to give a warm, tactile finish. Natural variation in the wood helps the scale of the building.”
