The development framework for Waterfront Plaza at Leith Docks was one of a series of large-scale planning exercises carried out by Conran & Partners for Forth Properties, exploring future development options for their land-holding on Edinburgh’s waterfront. These included the original detailed master plan for Newhaven Peninsular, and sketch proposals for the area around Ocean Terminal – the retail and leisure building also designed by Conran & Partners. The master plan showed a dense matrix of mixed-use development, mediating the shifting geometry between Ocean Terminal parallel to Western Harbour and the Scottish Executive Building aligned with Victoria Dock. 1.2m square feet of commercial and residential accommodation was shown, arranged around three new public squares.
