Roppongi Hills Gate Tower is a mixed-used building that comprises a two-storey retail podium, eight floors of office space with five floors of residential accommodation above. On street level, a solid slab of travertine is punctuated by a series of openings announcing the separate functions. On the quiet west elevation a copper pavilion forms the entrance. To the east, the office entrance is flanked by grand travertine piers. From the podium of shops springs an office block, whose smooth skin is punctuated by horizontal bands of red sandstone. Above and set back, the five residential floors have richer, less formal and more textured facades.
