Botanica restaurant is located on the 4th floor of the Tokyo Midtown development, in the Roppongi quarter of the city and includes a terrace overlooking a park and the Design Sight 21-21, a design gallery / workshop created by the fashion designer Issey Miyake and architect Tadao Ando. Conran & Partners were responsible for both the interior design for the project and the entire graphic identity, taking botany as their theme.
Botanica’s logo uses an organic typeface, with a 'shoot' growing from the ’t’ mimicking a sprouting leaf from a plant.
Integral to the graphic design is the photographic imagery used both on printed materials, such as menus and stationery, and on a larger scale in graphics throughout the restaurant; Abstract, magnified images of leaves and plants, in vibrant colours, offset the warmth of tones in the interior.
In contrast to the brighter imagery, a subtle leaf graphic appears on a glass frieze surrounding the restaurant. Light falling on the glass gives the graphic a shadow-like quality, a motif that has been carried through into the restaurant's tableware.
