Conran & Partners undertook architectural, interior and graphic design services for the first myhotel on Bedford Square in London, and subsequently added myplace, a funky penthouse suite. The myhotel brand is strongly influenced by Eastern philosophies, and Conran & Partners liaised with their feng shui consultant throughout the project.
The hotel aims to provide its guests with a sense of comfort and familiarity, becoming a ‘home away from home’ during their stay. The rooms and public spaces have a distinctly domestic feel, with an eclectic mix of old and new furnishings.
The entrance hall is a calm space set back from the street behind a glazed screen. The limestone floor and pale neutral walls contrast with the black-stained doorframes and timber stair. The reception desk has a sensuous curved top, clad in dark wood and leather. The bar area is painted in muted colours that act as a backdrop for a colourful selection of upholstered furniture. The main restaurant is a long space arranged as a ‘refectory’, with a line of tables in the centre that can be pushed together to accommodate different sized groups of diners.
The bedrooms, accessed via half-panelled corridors with stripy ‘beach towel’ carpets, are designed to feel very informal perhaps evoking the spare room in a friend’s house with a mid-brown carpet, slatted timber blinds and simple beech furniture.
