Bomb to the Beatles

This exhibition aimed to broaden the scope of enquiry at the Imperial War Museum , looking beyond the end of 1945 and charting the development of British post-war culture through the period of new affluence into the Youth Generation. While society adjusted to a world without conflict on the battlefield, another kind of war was being fought in silence – the Cold War. The exhibition attempted to chart this journey, by juxtaposing rapid changes in everyday life with the growing tension of international politics. The exhibition was broadly chronological, divided into four sections – Austerity, Affluence, Youth and The Bomb.
