Ark Hills Club

This international private members’ club is situated on the 37th floor of the Ark Mori building in Roppongi, with views out across the whole of Tokyo’s metropolitan area to the port and beyond.

The design has been inspired in part by a unique collection of drawings and paintings by Le Corbusier, which charts his exploration of imagery, form, symbolism and tradition. The artworks have been bequeathed to the Ark Hills Club by its owner, and are displayed throughout.

The layout of the club is informed by a dynamic tension between East and West, with an enfilade of gallery spaces connecting two sides of the building. To the East, the design is expressed as a series of planes placed one in front of another; to the West, the partitions are more solid and classical in form.  Similar materials such as walnut timber, slate and zinc are used throughout, but details are handled differently to accentuate the distinction between the two sides.

Conran & Partners also developed and produced a visual identity for the club, using motifs and colours inspired by the Le Corbusier collection.
