The bathroom should be an oasis of calm, a sanctuary from the stresses and pressures of modern life—in other words, a place to cleanse both mind and body. It should serve as the means of rediscovering one’s own private space every day.
Inspired by the work of Brancusi and Anish Kapoor, in the design of the Aveo range we have avoided the recent fashion for linear, geometric forms, which are ubiquitous, visually unyielding and unsympathetic to the human body. Instead, like much of our past design work, we have based the ceramic designs on natural ovoid forms. The egg is a perfect natural shape, ideal for its function. Like the shell of an egg, the shells of bathroom ceramics must be smooth, supportive and protective of the body in its vulnerable natural state. The high sides of the bath accentuate this feeling of security while promoting total relaxation. Equally important, the raised back prevents splashing when you get in or out of the bath. Spa features and heating can be integrated if desired.
Complementing the sanitaryware designs is a range of furniture with solid wood front panels in either walnut or bamboo. The absence of handles or obvious metal fittings pursues the theme of simplicity.
