Ark Hills Spa is located on the ground floor and basement of the Ark Towers West apartment building in Tokyo.
A cedar-clad reception area opens on to the main circulation zone, dominated by a back-lit glowing wall of constantly changing colours that adjust over the course of the day. This creates a continually shifting ambience; soothing, restorative and luxurious.
The health bar is a brightly lit room with a high ceiling. The windows are hung with floor-to-ceiling natural canvas roman blinds that cast a diffuse and serene light over the space. Connecting the male and female changing suites is the relaxation area, lit by the glowing glass wall. An electronic sliding door leads into three massage rooms and a salon with six separate treatment rooms. The fitness room and the studio are also on this level.
A tiled staircase leads down to the pool area and outside terrace. In the middle of the lower level plan is a sensuous stone Jacuzzi, carved from Italian limestone and lined with small circular blue tiles. The pool has a sloping ceiling, and is lined in white and blue tiles that wrap up the long wall, back-lit in blue. The overall effect is soothing and slightly futuristic.
The graphics for the spa are part of a visual identity developed by Conran & Partners for the Ark Hills Club, using motifs and colours inspired by the Le Corbusier collection.
