The Park Delhi, draws its inspiration from the five primary elements in the Hindu science of Vastu Shastra – earth, air, fire, water and space. The re-modelled ground floor lobby was designed as one continuous sequence comprising three zones: reception, restaurant and bar. A second phase of the project added a café and pool terrace.

The dramatically curved white reception space develops ideas of movement, light and transparency to evoke a sense of air and space. Mirrors are used in a variety of ways to hint at the idea of infinity. The white glass wall of the street façade filters daylight into the space but prevents views in from the street, creating a calm retreat from the city. Along this wall, a glass beaded curtain snakes its way through the reception area. The accent colour in the reception is hot pink, traditionally the colour of welcome in India.

Opening off the reception area is Fire restaurant, with a pale marble floor and a plaster wall-relief extending into the bar behind. At night the room is lit by an array of clear light bulbs hanging in clusters above the tables and by a family of bronze floor lamps. A sloping, curved bronze partition divides the restaurant from the bar. A continuous eye-level slot in this wall affords glimpses into the bar through a barrier of simulated flames, achieved by passing coloured light through layers of printed perspex.

The bar is named Agni, the Sanskrit word for fire. In this space, earthy tones of walnut and leather contrast with the fiery glow of an illuminated orange wall, masked by an irregular trellis of bronze strips. Beneath the trellis are low leather divans with golden pillows, and leather tub chairs arranged around glowing glass tables. Following the curve of the space, the bar has a carved timber front and an orange glass top, matching the tables and large perforated bronze pendant lights hanging above.

All the furniture for the project has been designed by Conran and Partners.
