Conran & Partners resubmits plans for Walthamstow

BD Online7 June 2011, by Andrea Klettner

Conran & Partners has re-submitted a planning application for the former Walthamstow Stadium site in north-east London.

The reworked £50 million scheme has 300 homes instead of 450 and also includes a nursery, leisure centre and “pocket” allotments.

Developer L&Q said the new plans follow “months of community consultation” including public events in March after the original consultation in December had to be cancelled amid allegations of intimidation.

Conran & Partners director Lee Davies said: “These exciting proposals will see this iconic heritage asset preserved and brought back to life for the wider community and future generations to appreciate and use. Our aim has been to create a vibrant new place to work and somewhere people will choose to live.”

L&Q development director Mike Johnson added: “We have conducted a lengthy consultation process. The results from the most recent completed comments cards following the public exhibition and consultation in March 2011 show that 58% of respondents liked our proposals.”
