London & Quadrant’s controversial plans to redevelop the nation’s most famous greyhound stadium to provide almost 300 homes and recreation facilities were given the go-ahead by Waltham Forest council last week. The council approved Conran & Partners’ designs for Walthamstow Stadium,
which would preserve the site’s historic listed buildings, but also provide 294 homes, a leisure centre, a children’s nursery and allotments. The track held its last race in 2008 but campaigners have tried to keep greyhound racing at the site.
