Hotel ICON scoops an hotel 'Oscar'

Hong Kong’s Hotel ICON has been chosen best as Global Winner of the Luxury New Hotel category at the World Luxury Hotel Awards.

Conran and Partners masterminded the hotel’s food and beverage offering. The Market is a stylish open-plan buffet restaurant, while Above & Beyond is a sophisticated private members’ facility.

The Market has an eclectic, lively feel, and is inspired by Asian wet markets. Tina Norden, Associate Director of Conran and Partners, explains:

“Our intent was to capture the vibrancy of the traditional Asian food markets in their rawness and busyness, and to showcase the abundance of food in a contemporary context.

“The materials are natural and touch and we have left ceiling structure exposed through a slatted metal screen.”

Marble countertops, paper screens and leather upholstery soften the space.

Meanwhile, Above & Beyond mixes Asian and Western influences to create a stunning luxury space.

Hotel ICON is also notable as the world’s first fully-integrated teaching hotel. 18 months after opening, it is already training the next generation of trailblazing restaurateurs.
