Bluebird Store Ltd / Harris & WebberLondon, 1997
In 1996, Bluebird, on London’s King’s Road, reopened after extensive refurbishment as the second Conran ‘Gastrodrome’, accommodating two restaurants, a dining club, foodstore and retail space. Bluebird can be analysed from an architectural view point in several ways.
On the most obvious level, it engages its urban context in an understated yet powerful way. The refurbished forecourt, marked by modest but high quality paving and its steel and glass canopy, engages the passer-by.
