The Astoria, an office building in Brighton with the highest sustainability credentials, gained planning consent in September 2011. The project will comprise of 15,700 sqft and includes café space and shared open amenity space at ground level, office space over 5 floors and and start-up units to the rear of the site.
The team based their design on detailed research of the historical, cultural and built context, stakeholder and public consultation feedback, sound urban design principles and a viable mix of uses. The materials have been selected for their longevity, durability, aesthetics and their relationship to city of Brighton and immediate context.
The design will not only enhance the immediate public realm and reactivate the street frontage but also provide high quality amenity space and create an exemplary, highly sustainable, energy efficient BREEAM ‘Excellent’ building.
